I’m seriously considering a pet ferret.  I’m pining for a furry companion.  Just need to convince Dave… Wish me luck :)

Everything is growing, exuberant and alive.  There’s no better way to enjoy summer than to drink it all in.

The sky is burning.
Looking over to Fawley power station; how I adore the sea at nightfall!

The Sundial Garden

A magical little corner of Exbury Gardens.  Tucked away in the woods, a splash of tropical colour within a strict geometric design.

And to hide from the sun this classical arbor covered by an ancient wisteria.

Jaggers Clough

Jaggers Clough

Here then at home, by no more storms distressed,
Folding laborious hands we sit, wings furled;
Here in the close perfume lies the rose-leaf curled,
Here the sun stands and knows not east nor west,
Here no tide runs; we have come, last and best,
From the wide zone through dizzying circles hurled,
To that still centre where the spinning world
Sleeps on its axis, to the heart of rest.
Dorothy Sayers; Gaudy Night

A Wordle interpretation of quotes from Gaudy Night.  When I first read it as a teenager Harriet Vane drove me up the wall but now I’ve mellowed towards her.  Maybe it’s because Sayers has put so much of her own soul into Harriet.  But I suspect it’s got more to do with the reflections I see of myself and my own insecurities.
“Lord teach us to take our hearts and look them in the face, however difficult it may be.” – Dorothy Sayers, Gaudy Night.

WHERE WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO VISIT ON YOUR PLANET? tumblrbot

Somewhere barren and isolated; Baffin Island or maybe Iceland.  I’d really like to visit the Faroe Islands and the fjords.

Weasely Warmth

A quick doodle.  Because ferrets are worming their way into my heart.

Allotment Progress

We’ve come so far with our allotment.  We’re just beginning to harvest the first salad leaves and herbs.  It’s great to have an excuse to get outside in the evenings.

Our fruit harvest:

And some shots of other people’s plots:

African Spirit

I’ve just finished my biggest crochet project yet; this blanket.  Crochet is the perfect therapy craft for me: everything is divided down into single stitches so you can do as much or as little as you want and it all adds up to make something warm and woolly.  More proof that if you take little steps you can achieve big things.

It’s loosely based on a pattern by Erika Knight but I changed the colours to tone in with this print Dave brought back from Malawi.

Rose Season

The pride of England; her rose gardens, are in full bloom.  Everywhere I go there are roses: wild roses, scented, old fashioned, hybrid teas – there’s even one trying to invade our allotment!  I wanted to highlight this plant as something special.  I can’t lean into the garden far enough to tell if it’s scented but the colours are stunning.
